Jenny Song is a dedicate piano teacher, accomplished soloist, and chamber musician.

           Biography

Jenny Song, born in China, has built a distinguished career as a pianist and educator through her extensive training and experience in both the United States and China. After beginning her musical journey in China, she pursued her higher education in the U.S., earning degrees from Michigan State University and the UMKC Conservatory. She is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Utah. Her principal teachers include International Chopin Piano Competition Prize Winner Margarita Shevchenko, the National Winner of the MTNA Piano Competition, contemporary American pianist Rosenkranz, and renowned Chinese-American pianist Dr. Ning Lu.

 

As a dedicated piano teacher, Jenny Song has more than 10 years of teaching experience, teaching a wide range of students, from age five through adult,  and teaching all levels from beginner to advanced. Jenny is currently a faculty member at Utah Valley University, teaching both piano majors and non-piano majors' applied lessons, and she also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Utah, teaching undergraduate group piano lessons. With her guidance, her students have achieved outstanding results in piano evaluation exams, such as RCM, ABRSM, and AIM, and have won or placed in competitions. She has also taught masterclasses, including for Mu Phi Epsilon in Kansas City, and successfully guided many students through university music program applications. Her students have been accepted into prestigious institutions such as New York University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Michigan State University, the Manhattan School of Music, and leading conservatories in China, Shanghai Conservatory, Tianjin Conservatory, and Zhejiang Conservatory.​​​

As a professional solo pianist, Jenny has presented numerous solo and chamber recitals across the United States and China, with appearances in cities including Salt Lake City, Lansing, Kansas City, Cleveland, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Wenzhou, Jinhua, and Quanzhou.

As an active collaborative pianist, she has served as an accompanist for the UMKC Vocal Department and for a variety of vocal and instrumental chamber ensembles at Michigan State University. At the University of Utah, she also pursued Collaborative Piano as her secondary area of study with Chamber artist Steven Vanhauwaert. Her recent performances include collaborating with the Salt Lake City Symphony Orchestra in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466 at Libby Gardner Concert Hall, presented as part of award 2024 Summer Art Piano Concerto competition winner; and a concert with Utah Symphony violinist Hannah Linz featuring César Franck’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major.​

 

Jenny also holds a strong interest in New Music. She has performed American Chinese Women composer Dr. Chen Yi’s work Duo Ye in Musica Nova concert, Paul Berlinsky’s Drifting Onwards in Ravel reimagined concert, young composer Leyou Wang’s Piano Trio Andante con Variazioni and Messiaen’s Vingt Regards sur l'enfant-Jésus in Visions of Light Recital.

In addition, Jenny has further enriched her artistry through masterclasses with distinguished pianists and pedagogues, such as Alan Chow, James Giles, Kathryn Brown, Deborah Moriarty, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Jeffrey Cohen, Douglas Humpherys, and Beihua Tang, Zhe Tang.​​
